Create Backup Archive Job
Vinchin Backup & Recovery had enabled back archive for the following types of backups.
- VM Backup
- Server Backup
- Public Cloud Backup
To create a backup archive job, please go to Data Resilience > Archive > Archive page, then follow the below steps to create the backup archive job.
Step 1: Archive Source
To select the backup archive source, you can choose the desired backup module from VM Backup, Server Backup and Public Cloud.
Then select the data source from Backup Job, Backup Data, Copy Job and Copy Data.
If you select Backup Job or Copy Job, existing backup jobs or copy jobs will be listed, by expanding the job you can select the archive source as per the VMs/servers/cloud instances included in the job.
If you select Backup Data or Copy Data, the backup data or copy data will be listed and you should select a restore point from the data sets for archive.
Once the archive source is selected, please click on Next button to continue.
Step 2: Archive Destination
An archive destination (archive storage) can be on-site archive storage or cloud object storage.
When select cloud object storage, you need to configure Compute Node to process archive data, when select on-site archive storage, it will automatically connect to corresponding node to process archive data.
Once the archive destination is selected, please click on Next button to continue.
Step 3: Archive Strategy
In General Strategy, you can set the backup archive mode, options are Archive as Scheduled and Once-off Archive. Archive as scheduled is suitable for the regularly scheduled backup or copy jobs.
When choosing Archive as Schedule, you can set the archive schedule on daily, weekly or monthly basis and repeat this archive job, once enable repeat, the job will run regularly as per the given repeat interval. Each time of the backup archive job will archive the latest restore point to the backup archive storage (on-site/cloud object storage).
When choosing Once-off Archive, it can only archive the backup data once, when the archive source is selected with restore points, the backup archive mode will be once-off archive by default. And you can only set an individual running time point for the backup archive job.
For Throttling Policy, you can set as Customized Policy or Select Global Policy to limit the max transfer speed at specific time.
When choosing Customized Policy, you can set the throttling schedule on daily, weekly, monthly, permanent or custom as per requirement.
When choosing Select Global Policy, you need to set up global throttling policy first, for set up global throttling policy, pls. refer to Throttling Policy, then configure Job Level, usually when multiple jobs use the same throttling policy, the higher the job level the more resources are allocated to process the job.
For Retention Policy, it can be configured per the number of days or number of restore points.
For Advanced Strategy, you can configure the transfer threads of this archive job, threads range from 1 to 8.
In Transmission Strategy, you can configure below features:
Encrypted Transfer: Encrypt the transmission data between Vinchin backup server and the archive storage to secure the data transmission process, default as RSA encryption algorithm.
Source Incremental: Suitable for narrow bandwidth user, by comparing data block hash values to reduce the amount of data transmitted, but will increase CPU resource consumption.
Compressed Transfer: Compress the backup data to reduce bandwidth usage and increase transmission speed, you can choose different compression level for this archive job.
Retry Attempts: You can configure the number of network reconnection attempts before giving up for this archive job.
Retry Interval: You can configure the time interval between each retry attempts, time range from 5 to 60 seconds.
Transfer Network: Network you use to transfer the archive data.
Notice
1. The backup archive job will archive the latest restore point, even if the backup job you selected which has multiple restore points, when the archive job run for the first time the latest restore point will be archived. If the latest restore point is an incremental backup or differential backup, Vinchin Backup Server will merge this restore point with other dependent restore point(s) to a new full backup restore point and archive to the backup archive storage.
2. Each of the further archive jobs will always archive a latest full backup restore point to the backup archive storage.
Step 4: Review & Confirm
After completing the above settings, you are able to review and confirm the settings.
You can optionally customize a job name and then click on Submit button to confirm the creation of this backup archive job.
