Huawei FusionComupte Cross-Platform Restore
To restore one or a group of Huawei FusionComupte VMs, please go to Data Resilience > Restore > Virtualization > Cross-Platform Restore page to create a cross-platform VM restore job. Please follow the below steps to create the job.
Virtualization supports cross-platform recovery to heterogeneous virtualization/hyper-converged platforms, private cloud, public cloud, and server.
Step 1. Select Restore Point
In the Restore Point dropdown list, select a backup node which stores the desired restore points.
You can choose either a single or multiple instance's full backup point, incremental backup point, or differential backup point for cross-platform restoration. However, there are the following restrictions when selecting multiple backup points in a single restoration job:
- Only the same virtualization and the time point of the virtual machine under the same account can be selected;
- Among the backup time points of the same virtual machine in the same job, only one time point can be selected for restoration;
- Time points from different backup nodes cannot be selected in the same restoration job.
After selecting the desired restore point under virtual machine which you want to recover, click Next to continue.
Step 2. Select Restore Destination
Select Host Machine / Project / Region / Target Machine Configuration
1. Choose to restore to a virtualization / private cloud, select the host machine / project, and then configure the virtual machine.
General Configuration Set the name of the restored virtual machine, the number of cores in the slot, CPU architecture, memory size, operating system type, and operating system version.
Virtual Disk Set the disk name, the target storage for restoration (default to the storage with the largest remaining space on the target platform), provisioning mode, and bus type. The configuration items vary slightly depending on the virtualization/cloud platform, and should be consistent with the configuration supported by the target platform's restoration job.
Virtual Network Modify network selection to restore the target network: Select the network where the virtual machine is located. Multiple network cards can be assigned to different networks. Expand the advanced configuration to view the network setting and MAC address. Network setting: Select the type of network. The default recommended configurations vary for different platforms.
MAC address:
Auto Generate The MAC address is generated automatically by the target platform.
Original MAC: Choose whether to retain the MAC address of the virtual machine.
Customized MAC: Manually input the MAC address information in the standard format. The MAC address of the restored virtual machine network card will be consistent with the settings.
Notice
If there are virtual machines with the specified MAC address in the restored host machine or vCenter environment, retaining the MAC address will not take effect. A new MAC address will be automatically generated or the restoration will fail (depending on the virtualization platform). In this case, the virtual machine with the specified MAC address needs to be deleted or the MAC address needs to be modified. Only then can the restored virtual machine retain the MAC address.
Advanced
Script after recovery: Support adding multiple execution scripts. When the instantaneous recovery job is completed, the script commands will be automatically executed.
Advanced Configuration for Partial Virtualization Support: VMware: Target Resource Pool. XenServer: HA. OpenStack-based: Available Domain, Operating System Type. InCloud Sphere KVM, InCloud Sphere KVM (VVDK): Virtual Machine Version.
2. Restore to the public cloud platform across platforms and configure the instances.
Configure the instance name, enterprise project, region, availability zone, CPU architecture, operating system, operating system version, instance type, VPC, subnet, security group, payment method, bandwidth size, and other configuration items such as starting the instance after the restoration is completed.
Instance Name: Set the name of the instance after restoration. There is no character type restriction and the character length is limited to 255.
Instance Type: The instance type of the restored instance. Different instance types have different resources (CPU/memory size). The instance type has its own supported subnet area, so the network needs to be obtained according to the instance type.
VPC: Specify the virtual network for the restored instance. When choosing automatically, it will preferentially select the original network; otherwise, it will select the first one in the list.
Security Group: Firewall rules.
Payment Method: You can choose "Pricing by Traffic" or "Pricing by Bandwidth". Click "Huawei Cloud Billing Standards" to view the specific costs.
Bandwidth Size: Set the transmission bandwidth size. The range that can be set is 1 to 2000 Mbit/s. The default is 300 Mbit/s.
3. Restore to the server across platforms and configure the target machine
Select the restoration destination and click "Detect".
Notice
Cross-platform restore to the server can only restore to the client that is booted using the custom boot image customized by Vinchin.
If the operating system is not detected, please manually select the corresponding operating system type, version and architecture, and then re-check.
After selecting the host, click on "Detect". The system will perform driver detection, and if successful, it will proceed with target device configuration, network configuration and script configuration.
Step 3. Configure Restore Strategy
For the job schedule, you can configure the restore job as start immediately or start at specific time.
Start immediately: Once this option is enabled, the restore job will be executed immediately after the submission.
Start at specific time: Once this option is enabled, a scheduled time can be set. After the submission of the task, the restoration job will be carried out when the specified time arrives.
Revert to a virtualization/private cloud platform across platforms. The transmission strategies for different virtualization/private cloud platforms are slightly different.
Transmission Mode: Sangfor HCI, Sangfor Cloud Platform, Hyper-V, H3C UIS/CAS, InCloud Sphere KVM (VVDK) only support network transmission mode; RedHat RHV/oVirt virtualization platform has three optional transmission modes: network transmission, SAN transmission (LAN-Free), ImageIO; Halsign vGate, InCloud Sphere Xen, Winhong CNware, D-Server virtualization platforms have four optional transmission modes: network transmission, SAN transmission (LAN-Free); VMware virtualization platform has four optional transmission modes: NBD transmission, NBD-SSL transmission, SAN transmission (LAN-Free), hot addition transmission; XSKY XHERE only supports SAN transmission; Huawei Fusion Compute KVM, Super Fusion One Compute can select NBD transmission and SAN transmission based on storage type; other virtualization platforms have two optional transmission modes: network transmission, SAN transmission (LAN-Free), and the transmission mode is set to network transmission by default when creating a task.

For Security Strategy, different virus scan strategies based on the status of each backup point.If users has not scanned the backup point, they can perform a scan on the backup point and set scan strategy, or they can directly restore it. Handling Integrity Check Anomalies: options include interrupt recovery, continue recovery, or recovery to an offline environment mode.
For Advanced Strategy, You can set a retry strategy, if an operation excepetion occurs during job execution, it will re-execute according to the configured retry strategy. For tasks with high priority, you can set Ignore Node Resource Limits to ensure the operation. For Overload Protection, ignore node resource limits means for tasks with higher priority, enabling this setting allows you to bypass node resource constraints.
Step 4. Review and Confirm Job Settings
After finishing the above settings, you are able to review and confirm all settings here. Click on Submit to confirm creating this job. When the job is created, you will be redirected to the Monitor Center > Jobs page.
