HOSTVM Granular VM Restore

Create Granular VM Restore Job

Granular VM Restore feature allows you to recover files or folders directly from the HOSTVM VM backup restore point, you don’t have to restore the entire virtual machine for the purpose of recovering some files.

To create a granular VM restore job, please go to VM Backup > Restore > Granular Restore page.

Select a desired restore point of the VM from which you can restore the target files (according to the time when the backup was taken), optionally change the job name and then click on OK to create a granular restore job for the VM.

If the VM backup data had been encrypted, please provide the encryption password in the Data Encryption Password field and click on Verify button to verify the validity of the password, when you receive the "Password verification success" message, please click on OK to create the job.

Restore Files

When a granular restore job is created, you will be redirected to Monitor Center > Jobs page, the VM granular restore job will be in "Pending" state, please click on Options and select Start Job to run this job.

It will take a few seconds to prepare the entire filesystem of the VM using the backup data within Vinchin backup repository. The whole process is done internally within Vinchin Backup & Recovery, no interaction with the virtualization required.

When the job status changed to Running state, click on the job name you can get started to browse the VM filesystem and retrieve the files you wish to restore.

In the Granular Restore File List section, you can also organize the file list by system directory structure, physical disk device and logical volumes as per your convenience. If needed you can also search the target files by specify the file name in the search box.

When located the target files or folders, please click on the download icon to download the files/folders to your desktop. If it's an individual file, it will be downloaded directly, if it's a folder, the folder will be packed and downloaded as a .tar.gz package.
