Private Cloud

Add and Manage OpenStack Cloud Platform

Before you can take backups of the instances (VMs) on your private cloud, you must connect your private cloud to Vinchin Backup & Recovery and get it licensed for backup. Please refer to below article to get OpenStack cloud connected and licensed.

After adding OpenStack to Vinchin Backup & Recovery, you can find and manage them on the Resources > Virtual Infrastructure > Cloud Platform page.

To edit OpenStack connection settings, please click on the Edit button, or click on the Delete button to delete OpenStack from Vinchin Backup & Recovery. The OpenStack cloud cannot be deleted when it has instances included in a backup job. You must delete the backup job before deleting OpenStack.

OpenStack Cloud Platform Licensing

For OpenStack, Vinchin's paid license will come with "per VM" licensing type, after adding OpenStack cloud platform, its licensing status will become licensed automatically, but if you are using the free trial license, please follow the below procedures to get the OpenStack cloud platform licensed for backup.

By default, Vinchin's free trial license type is "per CPU" licensing, after adding OpenStack to Vinchin Backup & Recovery, please click on the License button, in the Host Licensing dialog, please select all hosts of OpenStack and then click on the License button to get all hosts licensed for backup.

Notice

  1. For instance restore, the OpenStack cloud platform does not necessarily need to be licensed.
  2. With a system license expiration or exception, the licensing status (per CPU) of the OpenStack cloud platform will change into unlicensed, after applying a new license key from Vinchin and uploaded it, please get the OpenStack cloud platforms re-licensed for backup.

OpenStack Cloud Platform Synchronization

For the OpenStack cloud platforms which had been connected to Vinchin Backup & Recovery, the information like instance creation/deletion or any other updates of OpenStack need to be synchronized to Vinchin Backup & Rrecovery for Vinchin being able to correctly perform instance backup/restore activities.

By default, Vinchin Backup & Recovery will perform the synchronization in every 60 minutes with the OpenStack cloud platforms which had been connected. If needed, this timing can be adjusted, you can either set a longer time interval or a shorter one (minimal 5 minutes) by clicking on the Auto Refresh button. And in the private cloud platform list, you can click on the Sycn button of a specific private cloud platform to manually synchronize the updates of the corresponding OpenStack cloud platform to Vinchin Backup & Recovery.
