ROSA Virtualization Granular VM Restore
Granular VM Restore feature allows you to recover files or folders directly from the Rosa Virtualization VM backup restore point, you don’t have to restore the entire virtual machine for the purpose of recovering some files.
To create a granular VM restore job, please go to Data Resilience > Restore > Virtualization > Restore page.
Stpe1.Data Source
Select a desired restore point of the VM from which you can restore the target files (according to the time when the backup was taken), optionally change the job name and then click on OK to create a granular restore job for the VM.
If the VM backup data had been encrypted, please provide the encryption password in the Data Encryption Password field and click on Verify button to verify the validity of the password, when you receive the "Password verification success" message, please click on OK to create the job.
Step2.Restore Strategy
General Strategy
user need to specify the operating system type of the selected virtual machine, it can be selected as Windows or Linux type. After specifying OS type, click on Next button.
Security Strategy
according to the statuses of different restore points, restore points are divided into three statuses: Unscanned restore points, Healthy restore points, and Infected restore points. Different handling methods can be adopted according to different statuses.
When the restore point is an unscanned restore point or healthy restore point, users can choose Direct Recovery or Rescan. When choosing the Rescan processing method, users need to select scan strategy, scan thread and scan target.
Scan Strategy: There are 2 scanning strategies. Interrupt recovery after encountering scan anomalies and Disinfect and then recover after encountering scan anomalies.
Scan Thread: The default number of threads is 2, and users can set a number from 1 to 12.
Scan Target: Users can select full disk scan or scan specified target.
Integrity check strategy: There are 2 strategies to handle integrity check anomalies, Interrupt recovery and Continue recovery.
Advanced Strategy
Overload protection: If resource restrictions are set on the backup node, the backup jobs running on the corresponding node will operate under restrictions, and the backup jobs accept resource restrictions by default. For jobs with a relatively high running priority, this setting can be enabled to ignore the node resource limits.
Step3.Review & Confirm
After completing the above-mentioned settings, user can review and confirm the settings in this page.
A job name can be specified for identification of the granular job, and by clicking on the Submit button to confirm the settings and create the granular job.
After creating a new granular job, user can find it on the Monitor Center > Jobs page, under the Current Job tab.
Restore Files
When the job status changed to Running state, select the target files or folders to restore. There are 3 modes to restore:
Web Download
It allows user to download the files or folders their own desktop, the files or folders will be packed and downloaded as a .tar.gz package. To decompress this package on Windows system, please use WinRAR, 7-Zip, WinZip, etc. If user need to upload this package to a Linux machine, after uploading please use the below command to decompress the package.

Client Transfer
It allows users to restore the files or folders to different client. Before user use client transfer, needs to ensure the target client is added from Resources > Infrastructure > Agents & Client page.
After click on client transfer button, user can specific the Transfer job name, then select the backup agent which needs to be restored and select a save path.`
If enable Skip Directory Tree Recovery option, the selected directories and files will be recovered, while their original upper - level directories will not be recovered. This option is turned off by default.
Handle Same-name Files: Three methods can be selected: Rename, Skip, and Overwrite.
- Rename: For existing files, a new file with a similar name will be created, for non - existing files, they will be directly recovered. The naming rule is to add "0_" before the name of the recovered file. If recovery is performed again and renaming continues, "1" will be added before the name of the recovered file, and so on.
- Skip: Skip the files with the same name for recovery.
- Overwrite: If Overwrite is selected for handle same-name files, the original file data will be overwritten for recovery.
Verification method: Perform the check by comparing metadata.
Overwrite rules: Support two options, overwrite the destinations side if inconsistent and keep the latest version at the destination side if inconsistent. The default is overwrite the destinations side if inconsistent.
Network Sharing
It allows user select one folder to share.
User needs to select the IP address of the backup node that can connect to the target mount host. The mount protocol is the SMB protocol by default.
Click Configure Access Address to set IP restrictions for accessing this network share. Multiple IPs can be configured.
Restriction Mode
No Restriction: The system will not restrict access to this network shared resource, and any IP can access it.
Custom IP Address: Restrict access permissions. Customize the IP addresses that can access this shared resource. Multiple IPs can be configured.
Username and Password: Customize the username and password to be used in this network sharing.
Click OK, and the page will automatically display the configuration information of this network sharing.
Transfer/Share job
If user use client transfer or network sharing mode to restore, click on Transfer/Share Job to check the details about transfer job or share job. For Transfer Job , user can expand plus sign on the left side of the job name and check the destination name, target path, transfer file list and skipped file list information. For Share Job, user can expand the plus sign on the left of shared path to view detailed mounting commands, including those for Windows and Linux.
