Server Instant Restore
For Instant Restore, the backup data will be mounted to target server. You are able to download the specific file or folder and migrate all the data to target server.
Create Server Instant Restore Job
To create an instant restore job, navigate to the Data Resilience > Server Restore > Instant Restore page.
Step 1. Select Restore Point
Locate the Server that you intend to recover from the backup job in which it is included. Click on the + icon to display the restore points of the Server, and then select the desired point.
Step 2. Select Restore Destination
You can select target type according to your needs including virtualization, private cloud, physical server or DR lab.
If you choose Physical Server as target type, you should select recovery destination and click Check to ensure target destination can communicate with vinchin.
Following configuration will display including Target device configuration and Script configuration.
For Target device configuration, you can set mount path manually.
For Script configuration, you can set the scripts to be executed before recovery, after recovery, before stopping and after stopping.
After configuration above, click Next to continue.
If you choose other type like virtualization as the target type.
Expand the virtual platform to select target host or destination project to execute the instant restore.
For VM Configurations you can customize the settings and then click Detection to conduct the heterogeneous platform detection and driver detection.
After configuration above, click Next to continue.
Step 3. Select Restore Strategy
General Strategy
You can select a backup node from the list or manually input one and ensure that it can connect with the target host.
Security Strategy
For Malware Scan, different virus scanning strategies can be configured based on the different states of the restore points.
Unscanned restore point: If the restore point has not undergone virus scanning, you can choose to directly restore the restore point here, or perform the scan according to the settings.
Health restore point: You can choose to directly restore the restore point, or perform a re-scan according to the settings.
Infected restore point: If the restore point has been infected, direct restoration may result in virus infection. At this time, you can choose to restore directly, restore after virus removal, or re-scan the backup point.
For Integrity Check, you can configure Interrupt recovery, Continue recovery or Recover to an offline environment when facing integrity check anomalies.
Advanced Strategy
For Overload Protection, you can enable Ignore Node Resource Limits to bypass the node's resource limitations.
After completing the above settings, you can click Next to continue.
Step 4. Review & Confirm
You are able to review and confirm all settings here. Click on Submit to confirm creating this job. When the job is created, you will be redirected to the Monitor Center > Jobs page.
Notice
1. If you are uncertain about the details of job configuration, it is advisable to use the default parameters. 2. Please do not keep the instant restore job running for long term. 3. The instant restore job will not mount the unformatted partition or disk. 4. A Windows OS can mount a maximum of 26 iSCSI partitions for instant recovery. If the number of iSCSI partitions exceeds 26, the excess partitions will be mounted without drive letters.
Run Server Instant Restore Job
After creating a new instant restore job, you will be redirected to the Monitor Center > Jobs page. Here, you will be able to view the instant restore job you created in the job list, and it will initially be in the Pending state.
To start the instant restore job, please click on Options, and then select Start Job. The job status will change to Starting, it will take a while (usually a few seconds to a minute depending on the backup storage performance) for the restore process to be completed, when the job status change to Running the server partition is mounted on target host.
You can now access the target host and explore the mounted partition to review and download the files you wish to restore.
Create Server Migration Job
Server migration is a feature based on server instant restore job, the migration operation is recommended to be done during the non-business hours.
To perform server migration of the server instant restore job, please go to Monitor Center > Jobs page. Click on Options of the server instant restore job and then select Migration and follow below steps to create Migration job.
Step 1. Select Migration Target
You can select a target type including Virtualization, Private Cloud,Public Cloud or Physical Server.
If you choose Virtualization or Cloud as targte type, expand the virtual platform to select target host or destination project to execute the migration.
For VM Configurations you can customize the settings like Restored VM Name, virtual netword, etc. Or simply use the default recommended settings.
After above settings, click Next to continue.
If you choose Physical Server as targte type, then select the recovery destination and click Check to ensure Non-heterogeneous Platform and Driver Check Passed.
Next, you can set target device configuration, network configuration and script configuration according your needs.
After above settings, click Next to continue.
Notice
- Quickly create a migration job. If you are not sure about the specific configuration item functions, you can use the default settings.
- If the target type of the instant job is virtualization or cloud platform, it can only be migrated to the corresponding virtualization or cloud platform and the physical server.
- If the target type of the instant job is DR Lab, it can only be migrated to the physical server.
- If the target type of the instant job is physical server, it can only be migrated to the physical server.
Step 2. Select Migration Strategy
General Strategy
For Throttling Policy , this setting is optional, throttling policy works the same principle as for backup jobs.
Transmission Strategy
By enabling Encrypted Transfer, the transmission path between the physical server and Vinchin backup server will be encrypted to guarantee you data safety during backup process.
By changing Transfer Threads, you can define 1 to 8 transfer threads for a single server job to implement multithreaded transmission.
For Transmission Network, you can select a network to carry out the data transmission.
Retry Strategy
You can configure Network Retry and Operation Exception Retry to improve the fault tolerance of the system and increased the probability of ultimate success.
Advanced Strategy
Stop instant recovery after migration completes: This feature is disabled by default. If enabled, after the migration job is completed, it will automatically stop the instant restore job and release the related resources.
Migration completion method: You can choose to complete automatically or manually. The default method is manual completion.
Automatic completion: After the point-in-time data transmission is completed, the power of the instant recovery machine will be automatically turned off, and the dirty data generated during the shutdown process will be migrated.
Manual completion: After the point-in-time data transmission is completed, the power of the immediate recovery machine will not be automatically turned off. Before the user manually confirms, the cached data generated during the migration process will be migrated at regular intervals. The cache data synchronization interval can be set, and the default is ten minutes.
You can enable Ignore Node Resource Limits to bypass the node's resource limitations.
After completing the above settings, you can click Next to continue.
Step 3. Review & Confirm
You are able to review and confirm all settings here. Click on Submit to confirm creating this job. When the job is created, you will be redirected to the Monitor Center > Jobs page.
Notice
1. If the source server's OS is Linux, the Target Host cannot be a Windows system. 2. The OS disk can only be restored to a server that boots with the Vinchin LiveCD ISO. Therefore, if you plan to migrate the entire server or just the OS disk, you must use the Vinchin LiveCD to boot a new server as the target host. 3. When creating a Server Migration job, if the Target Host is the same as the Instant Restore server, do not select an iSCSI partition or disk as the Restore Destination.
Stop Server Instant Restore Job
After the server migration has done, the instant restore job status will change to Completed, and the instant restore job-mounted disk will be detached. At this point, you can stop the Instant Restore job and delete it.
To delete the server instant restore job, please go to Monitor Center > Jobs page. Find the server instant restore job which had already been performed server migration, click on Options and select Stop, then click Delete to clear this job.
