Server Restore

Create Server Restore Job

To create a new server recovery job, please go to Data Resilience > Restore > Server Restore> Restore page. Please follow the below steps to create the job.

Step 1. Select Restore Point

From the Restore Point dropdown list, select a backup node on which the server backup data is stored.

Then select desired restore point and click on Next. The restore point can be full, incremental or differential depending on which backup method you applied for server backup.

Step 2. Select Restore Destination

For Mode, there are two methods for you to choose from according to your needs including Whole machine recovery or Data volume recovery.

Whole machine recovery

Boot Media contains Manual Deployment or Automatic Deployment. Regardless of the type of boot media, only the WinPE/LiveCD host can be selected as the recovery destination.

Before Manual Deployment, you should prepare a machine with LiveCD or WinPE ISO image provided by Vinchin. Please refer how to generate and download boot image from Resource> Infrastructure> Boot Image Download.

Once you have selected recovery destination, click Check to detect whether the target destination is a heterogeneous platform and whether the driver is missing, then you can configure some optional settings.

For The target Volume Configuration, perform the restoration operation on a disk basis, which allows for the exclusion of certain partitions within the disk when conducting the restoration process.

For Network Configuration, you can enable it and reconfigure the network information of the target machine.

For Advanced Configuration, you can see the original machine's boot mode, reset the hostname, and set the transmission network.

For Script Configuration, you can set the script to be executed after stopping.

Data volume recovery

Data volume recovery can only be performed on target hosts with an existing operating system, and it can only restore the data disk, not the system disk.

Data volume recovery will overwrite data on the recovery target, existing data on the target will be cleared.

Once you have selected recovery destination, click Check to ensure the destination is connected to vinchin and then you can configure some optional settings.

For The target Volume Configuration, you can select the specific restore destination.

For Advanced Configuration, you can see the original machine's boot mode and set the transmission network.

For Script Configuration, you can set the script to be executed after stopping.

After completing the above configurations, click Next to continue.

Step 3. Configure Restore Strategy

General Strategy

For Schedule, you can set start immediately or start at specified time

If you choose Start Immediately , after you submit this job, it will trun to running status immediately.

If you choose Start at specified time, set the start time and this job wiil trun to running status at the specified time.

For Throttling Policy , this setting is optional, throttling policy works the same principle as for backup jobs.

Transmission Strategy

By enabling Encrypted Transfer, the transmission path between the physical server and Vinchin backup server will be encrypted to guarantee you data safety during backup process.

By changing Transfer Threads, you can define 1 to 8 transfer threads for a single server job to implement multithreaded transmission.

Security Strategy

For Malware Scan, different virus scanning strategies can be configured based on the different states of the restore points.

Unscanned restore point: If the restore point has not undergone virus scanning, you can choose to directly restore the restore point here, or perform the scan according to the settings.

Health restore point: You can choose to directly restore the restore point, or perform a re-scan according to the settings.

Infected restore point: If the restore point has been infected, direct restoration may result in virus infection. At this time, you can choose to restore directly, restore after virus removal, or re-scan the backup point.

For Integrity Check, you can configure Interrupt recovery or Continue recovery when facing integrity check anomalies.

Advanced Strategy

For Retry Strategy, you can configure Network Retry and Operation Exception Retry to improve the fault tolerance of the system and increased the probability of ultimate success.

For Overload Protection, you can enable Ignore Node Resource Limits to bypass the node's resource limitations.

Step 4. Review and Confirm Job Settings

After finishing the above settings, you are able to review and confirm all settings here. Click on Submit to confirm creating this job. When the job is created, you will be redirected to the Monitor Center > Jobs page. If this restore job is configured as Start Immediately, it will start restoring right after the creation of this job.
